Local Music: Jaymay & Elk City

Submitted by aekituesday on Tuesday, 24 May 2005No Comment

Last night we caught up with JayMay performing a fourth week of residency at The Living Room. There has been some buzz circulating this young woman so we had to see a show. She noted that her drummer would not be playing with that night but will be back next week. With or without the drummer, JayMay was pleasing to the ears. She had great stage presence and wowed the crowd. You might want to say she reminds you of Regina Spektor at first listen (JayMay does a better trumpet impersonation than Regina). Her set lists for her past performance are available here.

Some standout tracks from a May 19th performance at The Living Room.

You Are the Only One I Love [ listen ]
One Day Loneliness [ listen ]
Tragedy [ listen ]

Next week she’ll end her residency at The Living Room. Be sure to catch that show. It should be amazing.

Elk City is Reneé LoBue. After the messy break-up from other members of Elk City, Rene has taken up center stage. We had the pleasure of receiving an early copy of EC’s upcoming album, New Believers, and loved it. Here are some new tracks from the upcoming album.

Silver Lawyers (mp3)
Cherries In The Snow (mp3)

No word yet on the release date. We’ll post it here when it’s availabe.
