Unevenly paired with Patrick Wolf last night, was the opening act of Essie Jain. Essie Jain’s music would be best suited at a space such as The Living Room. The quiet and intimate setting would have captured our attention better than last night’s show. It’s not the first time we’ve succumbed to an uneven musical lineup but we’ll hold our tongues about this one.
Patrick Wolf took the stage after 10:45PM under a mass of applause and shouts. The magnetic and magnificent Wolf charmed the audience with songs from his latest release as well as old favorites. His set was neither long nor short and Wolf provided his fans with enough showmanship and gusto that could have turned the Bowery into dancehall. In fact, it became one when Wolf performed Accident & Emergency. The kids went gaga for the music. We must note that no firing was done on stage this time around.
Mr. Wolf ended his set with the title track to his current album, The Magic Position. He was beckoned back on stage and performed two songs, one of which is a Kate Bush cover, Hounds of Love (view our video below).
